Winter Blues

Shorter days, dark mornings and chilling temperatures. It's that time of year when despite the beauty and excitement of the upcoming holidays, warmth and sunshine is much needed. While a mid-winter getaway is out reach for many schedules, there's no reason you can't bring mood boosting colors into your home this winter. Blue was a huge color this fall for interiors and will carry over to winter for that much needed mental vacation. An accent wall in azule paired with orange and mustard accessories will evoke exotic destinations. Or for an early breath of spring, try robin's egg blue in dishware and cabinetry. Whether you choose to go bold or reserved, you can't go wrong with blues at home this winter.

Wild One

Adding natural elements into your home is a simple yet powerful way to update any room in a breeze. Try a simple set of deer antlers as a centerpiece, or get creative with textures like fur and feathers. These rooms are a great inspiration for tapping into your wild side.

Mute Point

Muted tones have really taken center stage in holiday decorating this season. The understated beauty adds the perfect rustic elegance to any room or tablescape. An eclectic mix of textures is also key to creating a cozy atmosphere for guests. Here's a round up of some of my favorite inspirations from this week. Enjoy!

The Traveler

It's surprising what you can do with four days alone. In a new city. It's nice to be a tourist once in a while. But moreover, it's better to be a traveler. It was once said that, "the traveler sees what he sees, the tourist sees what he has come to see." I know I prefer to be in the first group, and that's exactly what I did this weekend.
I started it all off with a fantastic brunch at Taco Xpress with Amber Anderson, the ever so talented wedding planner over at Heavenly Day Events. She was kind enough to let me play 20 questions about the wedding planning world on her Saturday morning. From there, I let wrong turns lead to found treasures, a search for cheap house plants spark a friendship, and  surprised myself with my frying pan skills. Most importantly, I found you don't have to travel far at all to find your self.

1,600 Miles

If love could be measured, 1,600 miles would be the number in my case - love of the West, love of bigger skies, and love of my boyfriend. Or you could measure it in Red Bulls consumed, white lines passed and gas gauges emptied. However you do it, I crossed the distance and closed the gap between dreams and reality, to get a taste of life in Texas and beyond. This week began the first of 8 here while I round through Community Medicine in Midtown Austin. It will only be time until I can measure more love with stories from the Violet Crown.
